Job Title: Market Assistant
Employment Type: Part-Time (15 hours per week) with opportunity for more hours
Job Summary:
The PWF Market Assistant is a part-time, seasonal and hourly position whose primary responsibility is to assist the Market Manager with the day-to-day operations of the wholesale market. This position is exclusively on-site at our market in Durham during our weekly market days (Tuesdays, Thursdays & Friday mornings), which run seasonally March-November. The Market Assistant will be an employee of Piedmont Wholesale Flowers and will report to the Market Manager and Sales Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
1. In-person market day assistance (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday mornings):
Opening & closing market shifts
Market day preparation, including washing and filling buckets
Farmer check-in and flower sorting assistance
Use of point of sale system; assisting customers
Maintenance of market space
2. Social Media:
Work with the Sales Manager to create engaging content highlighting products, services, people and values.
Assist Sales Manager to maintain and update social media platforms.
3. Flower delivery:
Occasional flower delivery to customers in personal vehicle.
Qualifications:
Able to safely lift 30-50 lbs. regularly
Has reliable transportation
Proficient with technology, including but not limited to: Apple software, social media marketing, Google Suite.
Experience, interest or knowledge in local flowers and / or floral design.
Has an understanding of PWF’s mission, vision, and values and is able to represent PWF to customers and the general public.
Punctual, responsible, detail-oriented, and able to handle / thrive in a fast-paced environment with a positive attitude.
Willingness to work in both a friendly team environment as well as independently.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Prior experience in healthcare, restaurant, retail, or other service industries encouraged by not required.
Schedule and Compensation:
Around 15 hours per week during the market’s open season (mid-March thru early November). Fluctuation may occur during the slower months of the year (July, August).
Pay based on experience, $16-18/hour. Seasonal, part-time.
